When is Neutrino Day?

Neutrino Day: Star Chronicles will take place on Friday, July 9, and Saturday, July 10. Many of our science talks, activities and tours will remain available online even after the event is over.

What age group is Neutrino Day for?

This event is for curious minds of all ages. With science talks, interactive activities, weird science demonstrations, virtual tours of the underground, an art gallery and library—every age group can take part in Neutrino Day.

Parents, we encourage you to attend Neutrino Day with your children to help them get the most out of the experience!

How do I join Neutrino Day?

This year, join us in our virtual Neutrino Day town. On our easy-to-use platform, attendees can talk with scientists, explore interactive activities, experience weird science demonstrations, take virtual tours of the underground, and visit the art gallery and library—all in real time!

Using Gather.town, a free and simple platform, virtual attendees can explore the event and interact with others as they would in real life. Watch the neutrinoday.com website for the live Gather.town link closer to the event.

While the best Neutrino Day experience is on Gather.town, you will be able to access materials and activities on www.neutrinoday.com or watch our main events live on Facebook, Vimeo and YouTube.

Can I volunteer this year?

We will be counting on our extraordinary volunteers to spread the word and get everyone involved! Tell your family, your coworkers and your neighbors. It’s also a great chance to reach people from out-of-town. Anyone, from anywhere, will be able to participate this year without having to travel to Lead.

Please help us promote this educational outreach activity with your community using these promotional resources.

Can I buy a Neutrino Day T-Shirt?

Each year, we make Neutrino Day shirts for our volunteers to help them stand out in a crowd. As usual, our T-Shirts are not for sale to the general public.

Why is Neutrino Day virtual this year?

For 11 years, Sanford Lab’s citywide science festival has drawn over a thousand visitors each year to Lead, South Dakota on the second Saturday of July.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted events across the globe. In order to protect our staff, volunteers, Lead neighbors and all our Neutrino Day attendees, our Neutrino Day team decided to host our 2021 science festival in a virtual space.

While we are saddened that we won’t be seeing you in person this year, this challenge has inspired our team to reimagine Neutrino Day. We hope that through this online event, we will be able to reach even more people with this celebration of scientific discovery—especially those who live too far away to attend Neutrino Day in person.

Will we get to come back to Lead for Neutrino Day next year?

We are excited to offer a free, interactive online event this year, but we hope to see you again in Lead for future Neutrino Days. Mark your calendar for next year’s event on July 9, 2022.
